Glover Roberts is a graduate of the University of Mississippi (B.B.A., 1966) and the University of Mississippi School of Law (J.D., 1966). His areas of practice focus on bankruptcy, business reorganizations and commercial litigation. He also serves as a mediator in business and bankruptcy cases, as well as an expert witness in litigation related to bankruptcy matters.
Prior to establishing his own practice, he was a shareholder with Sheinfeld, Maley & Kay, from 1986 to 2001, when the firm closed its doors after more than 30 years of service.
He served as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi from1981 to1986 and as Chief Bankruptcy Judge in that district in 1986. During his tenure, Mr. Roberts served on assignment from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in the Northern District of Mississippi, the Western District of Louisiana, the Northern District of Texas and the Southern District of Texas. While on the bench, he was also appointed by the Chief Justice of U.S. Supreme Court, Warren Burger, as a member of the Bankruptcy Administration Committee of the Judicial Conference of the U.S., serving from 1983 to 1986.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Mr. Roberts practiced in the Gulfport, Mississippi law firm of Roberts & Warren from 1970-1981. After law school, he served in the Office of General Counsel (1966-1968) and as Special Assistant to the Vice Chairman (1968-1970) of the Federal Maritime Commission, Washington, D. C.
He is admitted to practice before the State Bar of Texas, Mississippi Supreme Court, U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, as well as the Southern District of Mississippi.
He has been a member of the Dallas Bar Association (member, ADR Section and Bankruptcy Section), the American Bar Association (Member, Sections of Business Law and ADR); Mississippi State Bar; State Bar of Texas; National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, the Association of Former Bankruptcy Judges, and the American Bankruptcy Institute, he also served as a Master in the Judge John C. Ford Inn of Court.
In the area of mediation, Mr. Roberts has completed the Basic Mediation Training course sponsored by the Attorney-Mediators Institute and Advanced Mediation Training sponsored by the Association of Attorney Mediators.
Mr. Roberts has served as President of the Association of Former Bankruptcy Judges. He has also served as a member of the Dallas Bankruptcy Bar's Bench/Bar Committee, responsible for drafting new local rules related to Complex Chapter 11 Proceedings, Bankruptcy Asset Sales and Rules Governing Chapter 11 Financing. Mr. Roberts served as Chair of the Subcommittee charged with drafting Complex Chapter 11 Case Rules. Those Rules have now been adopted in the Northern District of Texas.
